In 1999, the Yosemite Wild Bear Project was created to maintain a healthy bear population by using bear management practices and public education. The Yosemite Association (now Yosemite Conservancy) partnered with the Yosemite National Park Bear Council to create Keep Bears Wild merchandise with a percentage of sales helping to fund the project.
