Introduction to Backpacking: May Lake to Mt. Hoffmann June 26-28, 2015
Discover the delights of backpacking during this trip geared for beginners! We take care of the wilderness permit and plan the route to ensure you can focus on memorable experiences on the trail. Your naturalist guide, Allison Baggett, is a Sierra Nevada expert and has been backpacking her entire life. You'll be led on a moderate hike to gorgeous May Lake in Yosemite's high country where you'll learn the fundamentals of campsite selection, tents, food, cooking, staying warm and finding water. You'll also learn wilderness safety and Leave No Trace practices.
You'll begin on Friday with an evening orientation and review of gear, and then hit the trail on Saturday morning. A gentle pace combined with plenty of time relaxing in camp will make this a memorable introduction to a popular outdoor pastime. On Sunday morning, you have the option to summit Mt Hoffmann, a 10,800' peak located at Yosemite's geographic center. The summit is one of the only places in Yosemite where you can admire views of both Yosemite Valley and the northern peaks of the park's boundary.
In addition to camping during the trip, the Experience Package also includes camping before and after, on June 26 & 28 at Tuolumne Meadows Campground in Tuolumne Meadows. Camping before and after is not required to participate. Park entry is also included, as needed, along with your wilderness permit. Upgrade your accommodations to stay at Tuolumne Lodge on June 26 & 28, available up to 45 days prior to your trip. Information about upgrading your package will be emailed after you sign up.
