Yosemite Miwok-Paiute Basketry: Two-Day Workshop June 20-21, 2015
Don't miss this rare opportunity to learn from a cultural icon and Yosemite National Park's longest-tenured park employee, Julia Parker. Often described as a "national treasure" for ensuring the cultural legacy of the Miwok-Paiute people in Yosemite, Julia, along with her daughter, Lucy Parker, and granddaughter, Ursula Jones, will guide you through traditional basket-weaving techniques as you create your own unique basket. You will be immersed in Yosemite's fascinating cultural history and hear the stories that have lived on through generations of families. All materials are provided, and you will take home your own beautiful handmade basket as a keepsake of this special time spent in Yosemite, immersed in culture and tradition. This workshop begins on Saturday morning in Yosemite Valley and runs through Sunday afternoon.
The Experience Package includes all materials, camping at Upper Pines Campground in Yosemite Valley from June 19-22. Camping is not required to participate. Park entry is also included, as needed. Upgrade your accommodations to stay at Curry Village from June 19-22, available up to 45 days prior to your trip. Information about upgrading your package will be emailed after you sign up.
