Backpack to Young Lakes: The Best of Yosemite's High CountryAugust 20-23, 2015
See the best of Yosemite's high country on this spectacular guided backpacking trip to the Young Lakes alpine basin, north of Tuolumne Meadows. Join experienced naturalist guide and Yosemite expert, Suzanne Swedo, who will share fun, insider facts about the area's natural history. Indulge in the grand mountain scenery of majestic peaks and crystalline lakes, and learn about the flora and fauna that make their home in the high country.
The adventure kicks off with an evening get-together on Thursday to discuss trail preparations, safety guidelines and Leave No Trace ethics. The first day on the trail begins Friday morning, setting off near Lembert Dome and hiking past Dog Lake and Ragged Peak, where you'll set up basecamp for two nights at a beautiful High Sierra lake. You'll have a chance to summit Mt. Conness and take in astounding views of the High Sierra from one the highest peaks in Yosemite. On Sunday, hike back to Tuolumne Meadows, returning around 4 pm.
In addition to camping during the backpack trip, the Experience Package includes camping before and after, on Aug 20 & 23 at Tuolumne Meadows Campground in Tuolumne Meadows. Camping before and after is not required to participate. Park entry is also included, as needed along with your wilderness permits and bear canister rental. Upgrade your accommodations to stay at Tuolumne Lodge on Aug 20 & 23, available up to 45 days prior to your trip. Information about upgrading your package will be emailed after you sign up.
