Sierra Nevada Red Fox Pin

Item #: 2053
Price: $5.99
Incredibly rare, the Sierra Nevada red fox is one of two foxes native to Yosemite (the other being the grey fox). Little is known about the habits of the Sierra Nevada red fox, but it is assumed its hunting and denning patterns mimic that of its lower elevation counterparts. Park biologists placed remote sensing cameras near Tioga Pass, which was the last documented sighting of these elusive creatures since the 1990's. In the winter of 2015, a Sierra Nevada red fox was caught on camera, proving that this species still remains in the high country of Yosemite. Yosemite is a sanctuary for many animals. Gathering more information on the behaviors of rare carnivores such as the Sierra Nevada red fox, will inform how best to protect these unique animals.
